Shaping the Regional Rail Mobility of tomorrow.

That is the mission of the innovation cluster. SET4FUTURE is the „R&D department“ of the association and is one of the four selected clusters that have been funded by the Free State of Saxony since July 2018. The SET4FUTURE project aims to increase efficiency, cost-effectiveness and attractiveness of rail as a mode of transport, especially in the field of regional transport and local public transport, through technological innovations. The SET4FUTURE measure is co-financed to 50 percent with tax funds on the basis of the budget passed by the members of the Saxon state parliament.

Faster market success through 1:1 support

Within the framework of the innovation cluster, the Rail.S cluster management supports the participating companies and research institutions in the development of innovations and the (international) market launch of new products and services. In this way, we help SET4FUTURE members achieve faster market success:

  • Participation in market-relevant innovation products
  • International partner matchmaking (e.g. within the framework of the research program Europe’s Rail, formerly Shift2Rail)
  • Funding and financing consulting
  • International marketing (e.g. within the framework of the European rail cluster initiative ERCI)
  • Strengthening of transfer and innovation competence (e.g. within the SET4FUTURE formats Research Factory and Academy)

SET4FUTURE Research Factory

Each project workshop picks up on a forward-looking topic of the railway industry and trans-
forms ideas from science and industry into concrete projects!

Already the first SET4FUTURE Research Factory at the Spanish technology and research institute eurecat in collaboration with the Spanish railway
technology cluster railgrup was a great success. Thus, the foundation stone for the later Shift2Rail 2019 consortium CARBODIN was laid here.
Furthermore, the visit to the University of Birmingham led to binational projects in the field of “alternative drives” and the virtual project workshop with Fraunhofer IIS/EAS to an R&D funding application.

SET4FUTURE Academy

“Just the idea isn’t enough!” – In the workshops the participants gain tried-and-tested expert
knowledge on how to lead their technical innovations to market success in a targeted manner.

New solutions with market opportunities are preceded, above all, by intelligent and courageous decisions. Whether industrial property rights,
product design or marketing – the issues involved are manifold and equally decisive for the market success of the technological innovation. In
addition to the (online) workshop series, the experts of the SET4FUTURE
Academy are also available for individual questions and topics. Please do

SET4FUTURE Cross-Industry Lab

NEW: In this transfer format, the exchange with other industries is specifically sought in order to break through old thought patterns, to get to know new approaches and thus to create a breeding ground for innovative solutions for one’s own industry.

As part of the first event on June 2, 2021, we will think about the topic of lightweight construction and new materials across all modes of transport in cooperation with the Competence Center for Aerospace Technology Saxony/Thuringia (LRT e.V.).
